jung forum: can we think and talk about sexuality, fantasy and fetish from a jungian perspective?

This talk is a work in progress based on one I have given to the Psychotherapy Today students for the last 3 years about what might be thought of as a Jungian flavour to matters erotic, fantasised, and fetishised - attempting to raise more questions than to provide answers.

Jung and Freud  famously fell out so badly over their sexual theories (which then altered a number of times in their lifetimes) exemplifying how difficult it can be to think and talk about sex and sexual feelings and the objects of our sexual passions. For to name is to define and has such potency to restrict how sexual matters can be thought of and talked about - and how potentially self comfortingly heternormative, pathologising and 'othering' our perhaps 'shadowy' perspectives and theories may tend to be which can alienate and/or shame so easily.

I discuss where our sexual sensuality might originate in some measure and connect up with contemporary psychoanalytic thinking in this area and want to stimulate questioning and thinking about the hugely powerful feelings and attitudes that sexual issues tend to arouse in us.

This event is open to all bpf members and trainees. It counts as 1.5 CPD hours.

The talk starts at 8.30pm.
