bion’s clinical relevance – a study day

Unfortunately this even has been postponed until further notice. Please contact for a full refund. Thank you.

Member's event.

Bion accomplished a radical overhaul of psychoanalytic theory and technique and extended both in novel ways. This study day will focus on the practical application of his ideas, aiming to clarify his ideas and ground them in the everyday realities of the clinical situation from which they arose. Bion’s writings from the early and middle periods of his career can be highly practical and have major significance for the problems that we all encounter in the consulting room.

Three papers by Feud and Bion will be discussed in the morning session:

  • S. Freud, (1911). Formulation on the two principles of mental functioning. SE X11: 213 -226. Hogarth Press/Penguin Paperbacks and PEPweb.
  • W. R. Bion, (1959). Attacks on Linking, Ch 8 in Second Thoughts, 1967, Aronson/Karnak Reprints. Also in IJPA, Vol. 40, Parts 5-6, 1959.
  • W. R. Bion, (1967). Notes on Memory and Desire, in The Psychoanalytic Forum, Vol 2: pp 272 - 273, No 3. Also available online.

The rest of the day will focus on clinical case presentations.
