COVID-19: reflective discussions - Summer
The Scientific and Applied Activities Committee of the bpf is pleased to announce a series of informal, reflective workshops on Zoom for members to share and process experiences of working in the pandemic. The series will begin after the workshop being led by Gillian Isaacs Russell and Todd Essig on July 11th, and the initial meeting will be held on Zoom on Saturday July 18th 2020, 10:00am – 11.30am.
The aim is to provide a space in which we can speak candidly about our experiences of maintaining a therapeutic setting throughout the lockdown, and now more recently, as lockdown regulations begin to be eased. Challenges in the work, the nature of the material, differences in the type of technology (phone/online), the loss of the consulting room, transference and countertransference issues, questions of technique, and of whether and when (and how) to return to working in person can all be explored. The workshops are open to qualified members of the three Associations of the bpf.
After an initial meeting, small reflective groups of up to 7 members will form, each of which will be facilitated on Zoom by a member of the Scientific and Applied Activities Committee. Details of the initial small reflective groups are below. Our suggestion is that each small group might meet three or four times between now and the end of October. Following the initial meeting of each small group, subsequent dates and times will be negotiated between its members.
The Committee recognizes the importance of such discussions and hopes to be able to draw on the reflective workshops to develop a research project, for which approval from the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies Ethics Committee at the University of Essex will be sought.
Please note: Workshops can still be signed up for even if you did not attend the opening meeting on the 18th of July 2020.
Meetings of the small reflective groups will be facilitated by:
