A Thinking Space: On Decolonising Psychotherapy

Saturday 23rd January 2021, 10:00 - 12:00

Registration for this event will open shortly.

This event follows on from the bpf webinar where Helen Morgan presented a paper on Decolonising Psychotherapy, which demonstrated how long psychotherapy has been overwhelmingly dominated by white professionalsand “whiteness”. Participants were asked to put forward suggestions about ways in which their own organisations could change in order to become more truly inclusive of ethnic and cultural differences.

Here we present a further opportunity to explore these issues in the form of a Thinking Space led by Frank Lowe and Anthony Ogoe. This is a participatory event that offers group members the opportunity to share their thoughts in an environment which seeks to promote reflection and authenticdialogue.

About the speakers

Frank Lowe is a Consultant Social Worker and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. He developed Thinking Space at the Tavistock Clinic in 2002 to promote reflection and authentic dialogue about diversity issues in psychotherapy and beyond.

Anthony Ogoe is a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Group Facilitator for Thinking Space at the Tavistock Clinic. He also works clinically for Open Door Young People’s Consultation Service, whilst developing a psychotherapeutically informed project for youth involved in the justice system

Please note: This event is open to bpf members and trainees and to other psychotherapy professionals.
