PPA Training Questionnaire
The practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy seeks to explore, understand and work in depth with the emotional problems of another.
It necessarily requires a rigorous and thorough training which entails the therapist’s time and commitment and the capacity to explore themselves in their own intensive personal therapy. The Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association (PPA) offers a clinical training in individual psychotherapy with adults, which is accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council.
Training
There are two routes to qualification – the Full Training and the Modified Entry Scheme (MES).
The Full Training is suitable for those from a wide range of backgrounds who may have/not undertaken previous training in a relevant field, and who may have/not undertaken a previous intensive personal therapy. Please visit Full Training (PPA).
The MES route is for those who already have a qualification in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, as a child psychotherapist, adult or couple therapist and who have undertaken an intensive personal therapy with an experienced therapist. Please visit Modified Entry Scheme (PPA).
Preparing to apply
Prospective applicants for either route are expected to have read the website, which sets out the necessary requirements for training in detail. We hope you will fill in this questionnaire, answering as many questions as possible, before arranging to speak with a PPA Advisor.
PPA Advisors are members of the PPA Training Committee and are available to talk to enquirers who are considering training as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the bpf.
Confidential Questionnaire
The questionnaire is designed to help all those interested in undertaking an intensive training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the PPA to consider their readiness to apply, and to reflect on the questions it would be helpful to discuss with an advisor. It is also designed to give PPA Advisors some information in order to be prepared for a call.
Once you have completed the questionnaire, please contact Gonçalo Birra at [email protected] to arrange to speak to an advisor
– if you are at the point of applying to train with the PPA
– or if you have started working towards applying and you feel that it would be beneficial to have a discussion with a PPA Advisor.
