Library information

  • The Russell Library is now downstairs in the bpf building and doubles as a study/breakout. You can access the library on Wednesdays between 9-5 and Thursdays 9-7.
  • Books: The books are arranged in alphabetical order. Primary sources such as Freud, Jung, Bion, Klein and Winnicott are in Room 2 which is beside the library on the ground floor.
  • Any reasonable suggestions for stock to buy are welcome. We also send books out to students outside London on request.
  • Journal articles: If these are needed, email the citation to the librarian and we will get them for you. We belong to an NHS based Psychiatric Libraries cooperative scheme for sourcing articles.
  • Finding Material in the Library: Library catalogue is available on the BPF website under Resources. Students can search the catalogue or sign in (button located in top right hand corner) using just their email address to see their library transactions, and renew books.
  • Borrowing and Returning Material: Members may borrow up to 6 books for 8 weeks. To check books out please sign them out legibly on the clipboard in the Library including the barcode from the back top right of the book. To return your books, please drop items in the red plastic box labelled ‘book returns’ in the library. Students may request renewals if books are overdrawn but please note that we may recall a book if it is needed.
  • Training: All new students are provided with an induction to the library. Students may book a one to one induction with the Librarians in person or online at any time, and this includes being shown round the e resources. Sessions are also available on research and search strategies.
  • Extra support: Anyone requiring any extra support please contact the Learning Support Lead Polly Mortimer via email: [email protected]. She can discuss individual needs, and introduce certain students to RNIB Bookshare.
  • M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries – Access25: Access25 is a mutual access scheme for the benefit of postgraduate research students and staff in libraries belonging to the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries. Access25 allows access to the teaching and research collections at more than 50 libraries in London and south east England, including Senate House Library, the KCL Maughan Library and UCL library. To find out how to access these libraries via this scheme, please email the library staff at: [email protected]
  • PLUG: The BPF is a member of PLUG – a library group including the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, the Institute of Group Analysis, The Society of Analytical Psychology, The Institute of Psychoanalysis, Metanoia , and Minster Centre. All members of BPF are welcome to use these libraries for reference, after contacting the relevant library staff by email.
