International Dialogues presents – “Childhood and its Encounters”: An introduction to the Maison Verte Model in Chile

This event is free for bpf members and students. Members and trainees of other psychotherapy/counselling organisations can attend for a fee of £15. 

"Casa del Encuentro" is a psychoanalytic and community intervention located in Chile, having been active for 10 years. Inspired by Françoise Dolto’s Maison Verte, this space offers a welcoming environment to caregivers and their children from 0 to 6 years old, aiming to bridge the intimacy of home and the social world. It is a space for play and interaction, where children can gradually become familiar with their history and community.

The event will introduce the challenges and experiences of implementing such a programme in a different territory and culture. The speakers will also provide a description of the psychoanalytic work based on a chapter from the first published book of Casa del Encuentro, authored by our friend and renowned Uruguayan psychoanalyst Victor Guerra. Finally, it will account for efforts to systematise and evaluate the intervention to ensure its continued operation and development.

 

Programme:

7:00- 7:30 Video with Introduction to ‘Casa del Encuentro’ and Clinical Vignettes / Diego Blanco

7:30- 8:15 Paper ‘Encounter, space, and childhood’ / Victor Guerra’s Paper translated by Macarena Hernández. Victor Guerra (1958-2017) was an extremely well-known and renowned Uruguayan psychologist and psychoanalyst in Latin America and other parts of the world. He was a member of the Asociación Psicoanalítica del Uruguay (APU), and a member of the Board for Children and Adolescents of the Psychoanalytic Federation of Latin America (FEPAL) from 2014 to 2016. Based on his experience and PhD research, he developed and disseminated an illustrative documentary with the indicators of intersubjectivity, which shows how the baby constructs its process of subjectivation in co-construction with primary objects during the first year of life.

About the speakers

Macarena Hernández is a Clinical Psychologist currently pursuing a MPhil/PhD in Psychoanalytic Studies at University College London - Anna Freud. She holds a Master of Science in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology from University College London-Anna Freud and a Master in Psychoanalytic Clinical Practice with Children and Adolescents from Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Chile. She works as a lecturer at Universidad Alberto Hurtado and Casa del Encuentro and is also the co-founder of the Latin American Psychoanalytic Hub (LAPH)

Valentina Peri is a psychoanalyst, holds a Master's degree in Psychoanalytic Clinical Practice with Children and Adolescents from Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Chile. She is the founder of Casa del Encuentro and works as a Clinical Supervisor. Currently, she is a lecturer at Universidad Andrés Bello, Chile. 

Diego Blanco is a psychoanalyst, holds a Master's degree in Psychoanalytic Theory and Clinical Practice from UDP. He is the founder and Clinical Director of Casa del Encuentro. He is a Clinical Supervisor at Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Chile and has received training in Institutional Psychotherapy at Clinique La Borde, France. He is a member of the Psychoanalytic Group Plus.

Victoria Nicolodi is a qualified child and adolescent psychotherapist from the Independent Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Association (IPCAPA) and the Anna Freud Centre (AFC/UCL). In addition to her qualifications in the UK, she trained as a Clinical Psychologist in Brazil. She is also the co-founder of the Latin American Psychoanalytic Hub (LAPH). Victoria has earned an MSc in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology from the Anna Freud Centre and University College London and she also holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in working with children, adolescents, and families from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. Victoria has a deep interest in cultural and social structures and its interplay with psychoanalysis, which has led her to co-lead a series of seminars at the BPF titled “Without Borders”. Over the years, Victoria's clinical practice has spanned across diverse therapeutic settings and currently, she works in the community by supporting adoptive parents and their toddlers and holds a position within the NHS working with care experienced children and young people.
