Work Discussion: Psychodynamic or Psychoanalytic Parent-Infant Psychotherapy

This work discussion course is suitable for practitioners working with the psychological wellbeing of parents and infants, where the parent-infant relationship is the central focus, regardless of professional background or qualification.

Applicants must already be working with parents and babies 0-2 years old, with a focus on the psychological wellbeing of the parent and baby, focusing on supporting their relationship. This course will also be relevant to those considering further training in Psychodynamic or Psychoanalytic Parent-Infant Psychotherapy. It may be of benefit to those trained in adjacent fields seeking a post qualification forum to consider their clinical experiences.

Places will be allocated according to applicants’ experience, professional background and previous qualifications. The group will be limited to a maximum of five participants and as such early application is encouraged.

Successful completion of the course leads to a certificate of attendance (CPD certificate). A minimum of 80% attendance at seminars is required for completion.

The course is delivered at postgraduate level in English.

There is a non-refundable application fee of £75.

The course is facilitated by senior supervisors and clinicians who are Parent Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists as well as either being Child & Adolescent or Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists. They are Members of the bpf, ACP and/or the BPC.

Group members’ experience with parents and infants in their individual work settings will form the basis of discussion and will be linked to relevant theoretical concepts. As a work discussion seminar, participants are expected to bring detailed presentations, which will be considered through a psychoanalytic framework.

This year-long seminar takes place online across three terms. Each term consists of 10 weekly sessions, 90-minutes each.

The participants will take turns to present their work with children, young people, and families, providing the material for a discussion within a psychoanalytic perspective. While there is no required reading, participants may be given suggestions for relevant papers or books.

There is no formal assessment or submission required for completion.
