Learning Support
Help available to anyone who needs it, with or without a diagnosis.
Learning support at BPF: What you can expect from us in terms of support and help.
Welcome to the Learning Support area, and to your studies with us.
We are working towards being able to assist everyone who needs extra help, whether with assignments, the learning environment, navigating the house, communication in all its forms, as well as with physical and mental health issues, and possible temporary situations that affect your learning.
We apply FREDIE principles to the whole organisation – we have a Silver award from the National Centre for Diversity and are working towards Gold.
- Fairness: Ensuring equitable treatment and opportunities for all individuals.
- Respect: Valuing the dignity and worth of every person.
- Equality: Promoting equal rights and opportunities regardless of background.
- Diversity: Embracing a variety of perspectives and experiences.
- Inclusion: Creating environments where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
When you start studying at BPF you are likely to be asked to let us know if you have additional needs. This will be a short, highly confidential, form on which you can outline anything you are likely to want help with.
You do not have to have a formal diagnosis at all.
What next?
Polly Mortimer is Learning Support lead, and also Library Manager. She is available on Wednesdays 11-6 (in person or remotely) and Thursdays (remotely) 11-6, and by appointment remotely at other times. She will support new and established students.
She can fix an initial 30 minute session to find out how we can help. You can reach out to her, or she will reach out to you after the initial forms are received. This could lead to more sessions, adjustments, and support in different ways in discussion with tutors.
We are putting in place a Learning Support Agreement (LSA) at BPF. This is a co-produced agreement that will formalise adjustments and bespoke support.
This can be helpful for anyone with a learning difference of any kind, a mental health issue, a physical or sensory disability, family or care responsibilities which could impact your studies, or a long term health condition, or other individual circumstances.
This can be agreed any time but perhaps the best time would be when you start your studies with us. Established students can also, of course, receive support.
