Taking place across three Saturdays, this training in Assessment Skills is suitable for psychotherapists who wish to further develop their skills in this particularly interesting area of work, as well as recently qualified psychotherapists. The training will follow the process from the initial contact with a potential patient to its conclusion, whether privately or through an institution.

This training in Assessment Skills is suitable for psychotherapists who wish to further develop their skills in this particularly interesting area of work, as well as recently qualified psychotherapists.
The training will follow the process from the initial contact with a potential patient to its conclusion, whether privately or through an institution.
The training covers:
- How to make a decision about whether to offer psychotherapy to an individual;
- How to think about the complexity of a particular case;
- Developing skills in thinking about and writing a formulation following an assessment;
- Developing skills in thinking about areas of risk;
- How to manage a consultation where the applicant is thought unsuitable for psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy.
The training will be run through large and small group discussions and will include each participant undertaking a two-session assessment consultation for bpf Clinical Services and attending two individual supervision sessions during the assessment period.
The trainers are:
Geri Dogmetchi, psychoanalytic psychotherapist and senior member of PPA;
Michele Foux, psychoanalytic psychotherapist;
Joao Botas, psychoanalytic psychotherapist and clinical psychologist.
Relevant reading material will be circulated.
Following the 10th October meeting, you will have the possibility of offering the two-session assessment consultation and attending two individual supervision sessions (the fee for supervision, £70 per meeting, will be paid directly to the Assessment Supervisor).
