Certificate in Autism and Mental Health

This certificate course in Autism and Mental Health: understand, assess and work with children with autism and their families, is designed for qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, applied psychologists, trainee child psychotherapists, and others with relevant experience of working with children and young people with autism.

The programme draws on psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, psychosocial, psychoeducational, and psychological perspectives. It enables students to critically engage with current research, developments in clinical and psychoeducational practice, early intervention approaches, assessment methods, and policy relating to autism.

It is intended for those who may in future be interested in joining our PPIP training (Psychodynamic or Psychoanalytic Parent-Infant Psychotherapy), as well as current practitioners in PIP, Perinatal or Early Years roles who would benefit from additional psychoanalytic group supervision or reflective practice. Members of this year-long group will bring ongoing group or individual clinical work with parents and carers, including biological, foster and adoptive parents, parents-to-be, and babies aged 0–2, for supervision and discussion with a specialist psychoanalytic parent-infant and ACP-accredited child psychotherapist. The aim of the seminar is to create a safe reflective group in which you develop and enhance your psychoanalytic understanding of parent-infant relationships and to inform and develop your practice and skills working with this age range.
